HSHS St. John’s Hospital Support Groups


Grief Support Group – General

A support group for adults ages 21 and over who have had any significant loss. This group meets every Wednesday from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. at St. John’s Hospital in the second floor St. Clare Annex, adjacent to the Chapel. The group is led by Dr. Dee Stern. For more information, call Spiritual Care Services at 217-525-5675.


SHARE SUPPORT GROUP

This support group is for parents who have lost a baby due to miscarriage, still birth or early infant death. Need to contact Christina or Ryan Nottingham for information at 217-306-4653.


Survivors of Suicide (S.O.S.) Support Group

These informal group meetings are open to those who have had someone die from mental illness via suicide. Meetings are held from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each month at St. John’s Hospital in the second floor St. Clare Annex, adjacent to the Chapel. St. John’s Hospital Memorial Service

This Memorial Service is held at Calvary Cemetery every three months and is open to anyone who has suffered a loss. Please call Spiritual Care Services at 217-525-5675 to confirm the exact date and map to location for any upcoming service.

Bereaved Parents of Springfield

This group meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at the Douglas United Methodist Church, 501 S. Douglas in Springfield. Please enter the building on the south side, lower level. For more information, contact Moe Alwardt, Chapter Leader, at 217-691-8578.


Sudden Infant Death Services of Illinois

Sudden Infant Death Services (SIDS) of Illinois, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not for profit dedicated to the prevention of Sudden Unexpected Infant Deaths by providing educational programs to families, healthcare professionals, childcare providers, law enforcement personnel, and the general public as well as Bereavement Services to families and any others who have experienced the tragedy of Sudden Unexpected Infant Deaths (SUID) regardless of cause or manner of death from birth to age 1 year. Holiday Help Program-Butler Funeral

Holidays and other significant days can be especially difficult after the loss of a loved one. Butler Funeral Homes & Cremation Tribute Center annually invites the community to discover, uncover and nurture hope by attending a Holiday Help program each November. The event is free and open to the public. Bill McKenzie, MA, LCPC a grief and bereavement expert, presents practical ways to help cope during the holidays and other significant days. A memorial candle-lighting ceremony also takes place to honor loved ones. Reservations are requested for planning purposes. Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception

Grief Share, a faith-based interdenominational 12-week program for adults who have lost a loved one. Time is Tuesdays from 1-2:30 p.m. at Cathedral Atrium. Call Vicki Compton at 217-522-3342 for information.


St. Agnes Catholic Church

Healing Conversations is for adults to share and pray about losses they have experienced. Contact the Rectory office for more information at 217-793-1330


Westside Christian Church

Grief Share, a faith-based interdenominational 11-week program for adults who have lost a loved one. Sessions begin in late January and late August. For more information, contact Stephanie Dugan at 217-793-2800 or StephanieD@wschurch.org.
